Charlevoix and Harbor Springs, MI

On Sunday, August 4, we went to a 9:30 mass at the local Catholic church on Beaver Island and at 10:58 AM, we made way to Charlevoix . It was a sunny day with smooth seas and calm winds. The 33 mile trip took 1h36m at a cruising speed of 31.5 mph.  Charlevoix City has a lot to offer and the Marina is one of our favorite stops.

We spent two nights there and on August 6, we left for Harbor Springs at 8:49 am. The 20 mile trip took 1h36m with an average cruising speed of 12.7 mph on 1-2′ waves.  We went to Walstrom Marine for three nights and had some leaks repaired on our windshield by their great staff.  This marina is a class act and they are the biggest Tiara dealer in North America.  The marina was full of Tiara’s and I would bet that only 10% of the power boats here were not a Tiara.  We tooled around and laid back to catch up on some things but the Midges here, a small non-biting fly, were terrible. We had thousand on the boat in the morning to clean up and they kept getting inside the boat all day and night.

On Friday August, 9th, we made way at 7:55 am for Suttons Bay which is north of Travers City. We knew that we were heading into some strong winds and waves and we found them.  The 3-4′ waves were getting bigger as we went along at 10 mph for 20 miles and we decided to go back to Charlevoix. At 10:22 am Val found a slip at the Northwest Marine Yacht Basin in Lake Charlevoix. Suttons Bay can wait one more day when the winds die down a bit.  I took a ride on a shuttle to the local grocery store to stock up and we chilled in a quite calm surrounding.
