The quaint little town of Suttons Bay is what you would expect from a northern Michigan little town. The marina was clean but a little outdated. We had very good weather coming in at 10:01 am on Saturday, Aug 10th for a 34 mile run from Northwest Marine Yacht Club in Charlevoix. We had a slip all the way at the end of the docks and it was about a 1/4 mile walk to the bathrooms.
On that same day that we pulled in, we hitched a ride on a bus to Traverse City to meet Eric near the airport. Eric was doing a solo cross county flight and Traverse City was his last stop before returning to Flint. We met him for dinner at the Robby’s Mexican and Spanish Cuisine restaurant. It was kind of funny that we walked about 2 miles to a Robby’s that we thought would be closer to him and he took a cab to a Robby’s where we started walking from. Eric then ran 2 miles to the place we were at for his pre-ordered dinner waiting for him. A lot of effort for a 45 minute visit, but well worth it.
The local St. Michaels Church had a pig roast Sunday night and it was very good with members from two different churches. Quite a few people were there and they even had a string quartet playing. When asked if we were members, we said yes, for one day.
There is a 17 mile bike path from Travers City to Suttons Bay which is an old Indian trail for those so inclined. You can rent bikes at both locations and take the bus either way back.
Tip of the day: The Midship Line is the last to break and first to make.
